Becky Thompson – scholar, human rights and antiracism activist, cross-cultural trainer, writer, poet and yoga teacher – led UNC faculty in a very enjoyable workshop, demonstrating many wonderful tools for creating more awareness and embodiment into out classes. This was based on her book Teaching with Tenderness

Beth Berila Director, Gender & Women’s Studies Program & Professor, Ethnic, Gender & Women’s Studies Department, at St. Cloud State University, both a scholar and mindfulness- teacher, and author of one of the only books about the link between ANTI-OPPRESSION PEDAGOGY & CONTEMPLATIVE PRACTICES, Integrating mindfulness into anti-oppression pedagogy : social justice in higher education, Routledge 2016). Led UNC faculty in a workshop to help resource ourselves.
Yoga, the Body and Transformative Pedagogy:Bringing practice and justice together, a workshop with Michelle Johnson
April 8, 2022. Author, activist, anti-racism consultant and trainer, yoga teacher and practitioner, Michelle Johnson led small group of faculty and community members (Hybrid in-person and Zoom) in some body practices (suitable for all levels, no experience required) and some discussion about the intersection of embodied practice, skillful action and transformative pedagogy. Skill in Action: Radicalizing your yoga practice to create a just world, While we are not all yoga practitioners, her insights have a lot to offer those of us interested in transformative anti-racist pedagogy, both in the classroom and in our daily lives.
